I have had to system restore somewhere in the same range as Jetliner, the specs are great and when it’s running it is a heck of a machine but more times than not I have wanted to drive over it!
I did the BIOS flash and it’s only screwed up twice today soo I consider that great for this machine!
I would suggest a new HD, and a clean install of Win7. I have never had to use the Asus support, so I can’t comment on that. But 13 HD wipes could be your culprit for your system freeze.
Really? Mine is always getting fucked up. I have had to wipe the hardrive 13 times, and right now I am having a problem where about 3-5 mins after boot up, everything freezzes and I cant do anything but hard boot it again. Any idea how to fix that? And also, ASUS support SUCKS! The only 2 things they tell you to do when you call them is to eater wipe the hardrive, or do a system restore. They dont any any other solutions. So anyway, could you help me out with the freezing? THX!
I have had this laptop now for a year and it’s one of the main reasons I can’t justify a purchase of a new Macbook. It’s just so awesome, still a beast and newer laptops still have a hard time outperforming it. With Win7 on it, the X83Vm-X1 runs all my CS4 progs without fail.
Biggest issue is the weight, not very thin, battery life and sometimes keystrokes won’t register. The brown color does grow on you though. Overall…it’s a solid laptop!
There are two similar models of this laptop, If you got it that cheap, it’s most likely the lower model, with a smaller hard drive, slower/older Core 2 Duo, and an Nvidia Geforece 9300m GS graphics card. Both models’ graphics cards run on DDR2 Dedicated RAM.
have you done any video editing with this? I think this is the best bang for the buck in gaming laptops period. I have researched for about 2 months now and I keep coming back to the ASUS line of laptops….and I think this is the model to get. Thanks!
Woah woah medium you should easily run fallout and mostly any other game on high with this comp…
Thanks so much for the info, very concise.
@XxFeNiX21Xx

I have a hardrive sitting in a box, but IDK how to put in a new HD…

nice review
lol ” A suess” sounds like doctor suess, i thought it was pronounced Aay suhs
On second thought, reading from a sheet of paper when you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about is not a good way to review a Laptop.
The processor is not a “P84,” It is a Core 2 Duo P8400 processor, that runs at ~2.26ghz, not 2.6….
The GPU’s on both models of laptops run on dedicated DDR2 ram, not GDDR3.
9300m GS = 512mb
9600m GS = 1GB

where did you order this machine ?
Hi, just ordered this Laptop online, only $571, but I was wondering if the GPU was GDDR3, other reviews say it was GDDR2. Thanks
I believe it has a DVD+/-RW with Lite Scribe. I don’t own the laptop anymore. I found myself never using it because I have a powerful Gaming Desktop.
What type of optical drive does it have? Is it easy to remove. Would rather have a blu-ray drive, and they are really cheap now.
great review of the hardware i’ve been looking for a ASUS review
Whats the difference between this one and the X2?
Will it play Counter-strike on high, if so, how many fps can this thing hit?
yes you can. I have this computer and i play fsx on all settings set to high.
good job on the review dude.
can u play fsx on this pc
how does it run farcry 2?
